The renovation and extension of a bungalow in Sydney’s Concord by interior design practice Bone Made seamlessly blends period charm with modern sophistication, embodying a timeless elegance tailored for a family of six.
Situated in a heritage conservation area, the project embraces the classic elements of the Californian bungalow style and adapts them for contemporary family living.
A key feature in achieving this delicate balance was the choice of Tongue & Groove solid European Oak boards in Graupa set in a herringbone pattern.
The Tongue & Groove boards extend from the entryway through to the open-plan living, dining, and kitchen areas, setting the tone for the home.
The mid oak tones of the Graupa finish also add a layer of warmth to the backdrop of crisp white walls and soft grey joinery.
As the home exudes beautiful existing period detailing, we wanted to ensure we specified finishes and fixtures which had a classic, sophisticated feel,” explains Leah Pitman, co-founder of Bone Made.
"The Herringbone floors give this home such a point of difference.”
Paired with aged brass details, earthy grey stone, and clean-lined furniture, the flooring enhances the refined yet relaxed atmosphere, giving this bungalow a unique, enduring allure.
“A straight plank style floor would have been a safer selection,” says Pitman. “But we love how the clients were happy to step out of their comfort zone and add that additional layer of sophistication to this project.”
