Tasked with creating a warm and inviting home for a client with a love for entertaining, Kate Lawrence Interiors came up with a scheme that embraces simplicity with a bold edge.
Inspired by the use of exposed, recycled brick that seamlessly extends from the exterior facade into the interior, the home is defined by the use of a few essential elements: Tongue & Groove solid European oak floorboards in Freado, timber joinery, concrete, and dark brass.
“The client expressed a strong inclination towards utilising a Tongue & Groove product, having conducted extensive research that identified its superiority over various other oak flooring options available in the market,” explains Lawrence.
“As a designer, it is very refreshing to have a client care so much about quality.”
The floorboards in the Freado colour were used throughout the home, running from the entrance through the ground floor to the kitchen, dining, and living areas; and up the stairs to the second floor landing.
“The floor was the first material selected for this project, forming a crucial part of the design,” says Lawrence.
“It was particularly important as timber joinery runs throughout, and we had to make sure that all the other materials complemented the floors. Freado was the perfect colour as it has a lovely warmth to it.”
The flooring was complemented by timber cabinetry in similar warm tones, custom concrete, and dark brass details. “It was a simple palette,” says Lawrence.
“And, the Freado flooring helped inject the warmth we needed to make the house feel like an inviting space for the clients’ day-to-day living and entertaining.”
