Old and new come together in perfect harmony in this extensive renovation to a family home by Beckspace in Queensland’s Isle of Capri. Inspired by the clients’ collection of heirloom artwork and modern furniture, architect Jessica Beck created a dynamic classical contemporary fusion using a restrained palette of white plaster, black metalwork accents, and Tongue & Groove solid engineered European oak floorboards in Kimber.
“The tone of Kimber brings warmth to the crisp black and white colour palette, and the chevron boards provide a modern take on a traditional style,” says architect Jessica Beck. “It’s a sophisticated, timeless palette with a clean, modern refinement.”
Tongue & Groove Grande boards in Kimber have also been used to create striking custom stair treads, which
are emphasised by visually simple painted plaster risers.
The kitchen, living room, and dining room have been opened up into a single open-plan space, and a secondary living space has been transformed into an opulent home office. The bedrooms and bathrooms have also been reconfigured and refurbished.
Throughout the interior – including in all the bedrooms and living spaces – the Tongue & Groove boards have been laid directionally to welcome visitors into the home and focus attention on the water views. The elegant floorboards complement the white shaker joinery panels, honed carrara marble, limestone tiles, and black iron feature doors.
“I am an incredible fan of the style and longevity of natural materials,” says Jessica. “The Tongue & Groove European oak timber flooring pairs so beautifully with the use of the limestone flooring, marble benchtops and linen soft furnishings.”
