This monumental home by Nik Karalis and Brandon Yeoh of 

 was designed for Celebrity chef Shannon Bennett, and is a response to the rugged bushland site. Perched on the edge of a hillside on a remote location along Victoria’s iconic Great Ocean Road, the H-shaped form of the home is also a nod to Sidney Nolan’s iconic paintings of Ned Kelly wearing his infamous helmet.

The exquisitely crafted interior frames expansive views over an impressive garden designed by Phillip Johnson Landscapes – complete with a billabong-inspired pool – and the Lorne-Queenscliff Coastal Reserve.

The ground floor is designed for serious entertaining, with a state-of-the-art kitchen, an indoor pool with its own cinema, and fully appointed bar with walk-in, climate-controlled wine cellar. The master bedroom suite is set atop the home, with a panoramic 360-degree view over the ocean and bushland.

This extraordinary interior is complemented by Tongue & Groove solid engineered European oak floorboards in the 

 colour, with a subtly oversized Grande format that emphasises the sense of space. 

The aged, dark brown tones of Penza are elevated by the pre-distressed, hand-scraped style that celebrates the characterful grain of the natural oak and evokes the raw beauty of the surrounding landscape.

 was approached to transform a former worker’s cottage in New Farm, Brisbane, into a characterful family home, he drew inspiration from the Queensland vernacular – most notably the iconic Queenslander. “The home had to be light and bright yet still have a sense of personality, warmth, and depth,” says Favell. 

“The New Farm Residence design focused on creating a modern, elegant extension to the worker’s cottage to embrace the lifestyle of the contemporary Queenslander.”

Wategos Beach in Byron Bay is a tranquil spot, much-loved for its pristine natural beauty, and it was this breathtaking landscape that inspired the architecture and interior palette of Brahimy House by 

 – think concrete, spotted gum timber, and natural stone with greenery cascading over the tiered structure.

Before its current incarnation as one of the most impressive homes in Norwood, Adelaide, this sandstone villa was a tired dwelling in need of a full overhaul – and one that its current owners had spent more than five years dreaming of owning. The home was eventually put on the market and bought by a friend of the couple, who then sold it to them six months later. Split symmetrically across two titles, it was a golden opportunity to subdivide the property. With the design vision of 

, however, the clients transformed it into a spectacular family home.

Transforming an ageing interior is a complex task, and it takes a strong creative vision to bring dated homes into the present. When architect John Deuchrass, Principal Architect at

A small 1882 worker’s cottage in Sydney’s inner-west suburb of Leichhardt has been transformed into a stunning family home that maximises the site by

The typical L-shaped layout of the home has been substantially reimagined, taking advantage of the sloped site to create a cascading arrangement of volumes that steps down from the street level to the rear living area and garden. Skylights flood the interior with natural light, bringing the interior to life.
