Capturing and embracing the unusual geometry of the original 1970s apartment building, the award-winning interior refurbishment of the Darling Point Apartment by Chenchow Little Architects is a sight to behold. Designed for a couple downsizing from a large family home, the clients sought a design beyond the norm, providing a degree of formality and a sense of surprise.

Occupying three structural bays with a different orientation and geometry, the main living space has openings that can be closed off but also used to frame views and provide a connection between spaces.

A lighting track follows the faceted geometry of the room, while the floorboards and timber ceiling emphasise the bending of the space to give a sense of elongation.

The use of timber also intensifies the contrast to the views of the harbour beyond. Joinery elements, made in American oak, appear to float and are designed to house the owner’s extensive art collection.

This stunning apartment was awarded the top prize at the 2016 Australian Interior Design Awards, as well as winning a Residential Award and a Best of State Award for New South Wales, and was announced as Australian House of the Year in the 2016 Houses Awards.

Tongue n Groove solid engineered European oak floorboards in the Chamoisee colour, Eterno classic wire-brushed finish and Piccolo format feature on the floors and ceiling throughout the interior of this apartment.

The gentle warmth of honey-brown hues enhance the natural oak finish of our Chamoisee timber. Its soft colouring allows the distinct grain to shine through, offering added texture and depth.
