When the residents of the Sydney home now known as Fields of Gold approached interior designer Meredith Clarke, the brief was to transform their home from a functional yet unremarkable space into a celebration of their personal style. Clarke looked to the enchanting garden for inspiration, and the resulting interior is defined by expanses of golden timber and natural light.
Key to achieving this vision was the use of Tongue & Groove solid engineered oak floorboards in Freado, which replaced a much darker existing timber floor that felt at odds with the proposed sandstone and marble in the kitchen.
“Freado is a beautiful tone that complements these chosen materials – and the clients’ ceramics collection – and it made such a difference in bouncing light around the room,” explains Clarke.
To reflect the heritage of the original home, the Tongue & Groove boards have been set out in a classic herringbone pattern.
“The way the timber floor sits next to the textural sandstone flooring is stunning,” says Clarke.
“Changing the flooring really transformed the interior. All the light had previously been sucked up with the dark timber and lightening it up with the Tongue & Groove Freado floorboards really made a difference.
We were aiming for a timeless renovation and the chosen flooring brings warmth, texture and visual interest to the design.”
