Perched on Ben Buckler Point in Sydney’s iconic North Bondi, Deepwater House by Tobias Partners is both a spectacular platform for entertaining and a cherished family home.

The dynamic home is set over five levels, each with a subtly different quality – from the varied ceiling heights to the way the rooms and balconies nestle into and project from the built form in classical-style vertical and horizontal grids. This clever approach allows the house to be easily split into two spacious and private apartments when guests stay.

The exterior is informed by the harsh environmental conditions of the coastal site, and the interior is deliberately restrained to thoughtfully balance the constant activity outside. Operable windows and shades allow for sea breezes and natural light to infiltrate the interior for year-round comfort, while a constant material palette ensures indoor and outdoor spaces flow seamlessly.

This sensitive approach is also reflected in the pared-back interior style. Handcrafted timber joinery and panelling is accentuated by Tongue & Groove solid engineered European oak floorboards in the neutral Freado colour and generously proportioned Grande format.

The Prime Grade characteristics of the floorboards mean fewer – if any – knots, for a consistent aesthetic that celebrates the natural beauty of the timber and enhances the sophisticated style of the home.
