Before its current incarnation as one of the most impressive homes in Norwood, Adelaide, this sandstone villa was a tired dwelling in need of a full overhaul – and one that its current owners had spent more than five years dreaming of owning. The home was eventually put on the market and bought by a friend of the couple, who then sold it to them six months later. Split symmetrically across two titles, it was a golden opportunity to subdivide the property. With the design vision of Proske, however, the clients transformed it into a spectacular family home.
“A love of entertaining was at the heart of our design approach,” says Erin Crowden, associate at Proske.
“We wanted to create a modern family home to encourage time spent together and with friends, and to foster a strong sense of connection.”
The material palette has been designed to age gracefully, yet provide a tactile experience for everyday life.
Tongue & Groove solid engineered floorboards fit this brief perfectly, and are used to create a sense of continuity throughout the home, connecting different spaces and zones.
“Tongue & Groove Hekke floorboards were chosen for their quality and ability to add interest to the overall palette,” explains Crowden.
“Their texture and natural appeal complemented our aim of a welcoming yet refined space providing a great base for the gradation of other materials used throughout the residence.”
To complement the Tongue & Groove floorboards, Proske specified deeper toned timber joinery, natural stone tiles and benchtops, and steel and bronze detailing. “The palette creates a comfortable, refined backdrop for the clients’ furniture and art collections,” says Crowden.
“The natural warmth of the Tongue & Groove floorboards also adds a balance between hardwearing and timelessness – which is great for our client’s busy lifestyle.”
