Located within a heritage-listed church in Sydney’s Paddington, luxury fashion boutique Parlour X has been transformed by 

 into an atelier-like retail destination designed to inspire and delight.

The original sandstone architecture of the former church conceals a retail sanctuary characterised by its deliberately discreet and unassuming interior fit-out, elevated by the awe-inspiring high-vaulted space and original stained-glass windows.

Alongside the boutique stocking high-end international fashion labels, the space also features corporate and creative headquarters, a photographic studio, and offices for the Parlour X e-commerce business.

The stylish yet understated palette of cream-coloured structural steel, sandstone, and mirrored display cabinets allows the space to be radically transformed in mood depending on the season and current collections. At the heart of the cavernous space is a circular point-of-sale counter backed by an architectural display system topped with a mezzanine level and neon lighting.

Tongue & Groove solid engineered European oak floorboards in the pale, natural oak tones of the Freado colour with an Classic Grade textured finish and Grande format complement this elegant palette. The result is not only a luxury shopping destination, but a creative hub that offers a fresh perspective on the potential of retail.

Transforming an ageing interior is a complex task, and it takes a strong creative vision to bring dated homes into the present. When architect John Deuchrass, Principal Architect at JDA Studio, was faced with a top floor apartment in a 1950’s, yellow-brick block of units in the harbourside suburb of Manly in Sydney, he decided to strip the interior back to a shell and create a crisp, calm, sophisticated space with a sense of warmth to evoke the nearby beach.

Clover House is home to a family of six, including four young adult children. “We rejuvenated and revitalised the house and brought better amenities to the home for a more adult population,” says Carole Whiting, founder of Studio Whiting.

To craft an interior that truly immersed its residents, the architects turned to a palette of natural materials – including Tongue & Groove solid engineered European oak boards in

A small 1882 worker’s cottage in Sydney’s inner-west suburb of Leichhardt has been transformed into a stunning family home that maximises the site by 

. The typical L-shaped layout of the home has been substantially reimagined, taking advantage of the sloped site to create a cascading arrangement of volumes that steps down from the street level to the rear living area and garden. Skylights flood the interior with natural light, bringing the interior to life.

When interior designer Ashley Maddison, founder of 

, was approached to design a family home in Brisbane with a sleek, dark interior, the challenge was to avoid an interior that felt oppressive. “The client is particularly fond of concrete paired with black tones,” says Maddison. “We had to find ways to incorporate nature and warmth – and the choice of finishes significantly contributes to softening the concrete structure.”

 reimagines the much-loved Museum Art Hotel, retaining its eccentric spirit alongside an extraordinary collection of New Zealand artwork and Italian motorbikes.
