Modello is a home renovation and expansion designed by Joe Adsett Architects and built by Graya that celebrates balance – the historic Queenslander home has been adapted to suit contemporary family life.
Light timber features are juxtaposed with heavier masonry elements that anchor the home to the site; and a monochromatic palette is elevated through the use of richly textured natural stone, plaster, steel, and timber.
The historic and new elements are united through the use of Tongue & Groove solid engineered European oak flooring in Oslo, which elegantly sweeps through the ground floor and up the stairs to create a seamless transition between the two interior zones.
The deep French grey and antique white tones of the Tongue & Groove boards in Oslo emphasise the distinctive grain of the oak, and the slimline Piccolo boards are laid in a graphic Chevron pattern that again provides a link between the heritage home and the contemporary extension.
The colour also complements the breezy white interior palette.
“A crafted approach sees patterning, such as the herringbone timber flooring, combine the existing and new areas, providing a textured foundation that binds both eras,” explains the architect.
