Patchwork House is a reimagined 1980s residence in Sydney’s Vaucluse by Decus that brings colour, texture and bespoke detailing together to create a home of richly balanced contrasts.

Designed for three generations, it layers open living and entertaining areas with more intimate private spaces. A considered material palette gives each room its own character while ensuring a cohesive vision across the entire home.
Tongue & Groove solid European oak boards in a Grande format and Freado finish have been used throughout. Laid in a linear pattern, they elongate the interior and create a seamless sense of flow between the different spaces.

“We wanted a floor that felt warm and natural, but still modern and tactile,” says Alexandra Donohoe Church, founder and creative director of Decus.
“The Freado finish in Grande format gave us that clean, expansive look while keeping a lovely texture and depth underfoot. It just feels inviting the moment you step in.”
The boards are set against a layered palette of stone, timber and polished plaster, providing a visually soft, natural foundation. The generous scale of the Grande format brings a sense of scale to the larger spaces, and the warmth of the oak creates an elegant backdrop.
“The boards anchor the palette with a soft, natural warmth,” says Donohoe Church. “They bring understated sophistication and subtly tie all the finishes together without ever feeling overdone. It makes the whole place feel connected.”
